The Montreal Canadiens have acquired defenseman Alexandre Carrier from the Nashville Predators in exchange for defenseman Justin Barron.
Both teams confirmed the transaction late on Wednesday evening.
Carrier took part in 28 games with the Predators this season, registering a goal and seven points in addition to serving 12 penalty minutes. The Quebec native is probably glad to be coming home in this transaction. He has played a total of 245 NHL games with the Predators, totalling 11 goals and 58 assists.
He was listed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury he suffered back on Dec. 7, however, TVA Sports' Renaud Lavoie claims Carrier has received the green light this morning by doctors.
As for Barron, he was acquired by the Habs back in 2021-22 and has since collected 13 goals and 31 points in 109 games with the franchise. This season, he has put up just a goal and could greatly benefit from the change of scenery.
Several trades have taken place on Wednesday as teams have until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow night to make moves before the league’s holiday roster freeze takes effect.
Earlier today, the New York Rangers traded forward Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken. Coming to the Big Apple in return are defenseman Will Borgen, a third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, and a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NHL.
Then, the Pittsburgh Penguins acquired a familiar face in defenseman Pierre-Luc Joseph, who was traded by the St. Louis Blues for future considerations.
