According to insider Darren Dreger of TSN, the Chicago Blackhawks and Winnipeg are finalizing a trade, involving Isaak Phillips for Dmitry Kuzmin.

Phillips is a 22-year-old defenseman who was re-signed to a one-year, two-way deal worth $775,000 by Chicago this summer. He spent the 2023-2024 campaign split between the Blackhawks and its AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs.

He’s played only three games with the Hawks this season, recording his second NHL career goal. In Rockford, Phillips has put up one goal and eight points in 28 contests, along with 54 penalty minutes.

He was originally a fifth-round pick by Chicago in the 2020 NHL draft.

As for Dmitry Kuzmin, he has yet to play in the NHL, but was a Jets’ third round pick, 82nd overall in the 2021 NHL Draft.

The 21-year-old blue liner has recorded one goal and four points, along with 16 penalty minutes in 21 contests with the AHL’s Manitoba Moose.
