New video of Connor McDavid gets Leafs’ fans dreaming about blockbuster move to Toronto
This got a lot of people talking! What’s your take? Watch below:
Fans finally got to see great players like Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon and Connor McDavid play together in the opener of the 4-nations tournament when Team Canada took on Sweden and won 4-3 in overtime. The latter caught even more attention when he was playing with Maple Leafs’ Mitch Marner with fans in Toronto begging for both players to play for the Leafs in the future.
A video was posted during Wednesday’s contest in which McDavid and Marner can be seen talking to one another, working on a play during a TV timeout. When the video was posted on social media, fans immediately started dreaming about the possibility of seeing McDavid signing in Toronto once he becomes a free agent next summer.
However, for McDavid and Marner to play together in Toronto, fans would not only need for the Edmonton Oilers’ captain to sign with the Maple Leafs, but for the latter to get an extension done first.
The Maple Leafs are believed to be in conversations with forward Mitch Marner about a contract extension. Marner is playing the final year of a six-year, $65.41 million contract and becomes a pending unrestricted free agent and can leave the team scot free this upcoming offseason. There is however a sense that Toronto will not accept to pay Marner more than captain Auston Matthews regardless of who is producing more…
I mean, I believe signing Marner to an extension is more likely to happen than to convince McDavid to leave the Oilers.
But the fact that fans are getting excited about seeing McDavid and Marner play together makes you realize how insane the move would be for the Maple Leafs’ fanbase.
