A National Hockey League prospect is facing a number of charges after a single vehicle crash that is believed to have been influenced by alcohol.

According to a report from The London Free Press, 20 year old London Knights forward Cam Allen will have to appear in court on March 6th to face multiple charges relating to the impaired operation of a motor vehicle. Allen has been charged after police responded to a single vehicle crash at around 3:20 am on Saturday morning, only to find the vehicle abandonned. An arrest was made shortly after and Allen is now charged with operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, fleeing the scene of a crash and a bevy of other charges.

Allen is currently a prospect for the Washington Capitals who selected him in the fifth round (136th overall) of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, although he has never appeared in an NHL game.

This season Allen has appeared in a total of 45 American Hockey League games for both the Guelph Storm and London Knights, scoring a combined 11 goals and adding a combined 31 assists for a combined total of 42 points this season.

Needless to say, Allen's decision to allegedly get behind the wheel of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol is a stunning one in the wake of the recent tragedy involving NHL star Johnny Gaudreau, one that sent shockwaves throughout the hockey community late last year. I suspect his decision to do so will not sit well with members of that community and may even negatively impact his hockey career moving forward.
