Auston Matthews gets booed like never before in Montreal!
He was presented before the opener between Canada and Sweden at the Bell Center and it went horribly wrong. Watch below:
It’s opening night for the Four Nations Face-off Tournament with Team Canada and Team Sweden and there were great pre-game ceremonies before puck drop.
Many former legends of the NHL were present, including Teemu Selanne, Mike Richter, Daniel Alfredsson and the great Mario Lemieux, but the four nations’ captains were also at center ice for the ceremonial puck drop, which meant Aleksander Barkov and Auston Matthews joined Sidney Crosby and Victor Hedman.
And boy did Matthews hear it from the Montreal crowd once he got onto the ice. You have to watch the video below, I don’t think the Toronto Maple Leafs’ captain was ever booed this much:
When Maple Leafs’ teammates was introduced as part of the starting lineup, he too was booed. I mean, Canadiens’ fans are attending the game. What else did you expect?
OVATION FOR MARIO
A great moment took place moments after Matthews was booed, when Mario Lemieux was introduced to the crowd at the Bell Center. A massive standing ovation and chants of “Mario! Mario! Mario!” after Lemieux made his way to center ice.
It was electric. Watch below:
