This was an ugly scene for the Vancouver Canucks late on Saturday night, one that could have long term ramifications for the franchise depending on how this all turns out.

Recently acquired Canucks forward Filip Chytil appeared to suffer a fairly serious brain injury during the final 5 minutes of a clash between the Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks, this after Chytil was on the receiving end of a heavy hit from former Vancouver Canucks forward Jason Dickinson.

Dickinson caught Chytil right between the numbers and did so after Chytil had already played the puck along the boards, but what made matters even worse was how Chytil crashed into the glass. The impact from the force of Dickinson's body check drove Chytil's head into the glass, striking the edge of the boards as he crashed down to the ice.

It was immediately apparent that Chytil was not in good shape and in fact he appeared to be concussed, unable to get back up to his feet on the first attempt and instead stumbling back down to the ice as he tried to find his equilibrium. The good news is that Chytil was able to get back to the Canucks locker room under his own power, but he appeared to be furious as he did so, slamming both his stick and the door to the bench on his way out.

Chytil is a player that has a history of concussion issues so this is obviously a huge cause for concern when it comes to the Canucks, although it is too early to tell just how serious this will prove to be for both the player and his team.

Following the conclusion of the game, Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet indicated that he had received no update on Chytil from the team's medical staff, nor had he received any explanation from the officials regarding why there was no call on the play.
