Maple Leafs consider trading prospect Fraser Minten in major rumblings that have fans on edge

This would be quite a significant deal leading to the trade deadline. More details below:

Chris Gosselin

Trade rumours are picking up on Phildelphia Flyers’ forward Scott Laughton and Anthony Di Marco of Daily Face-Off has specifically mentioned the Winnipeg Jets and Toronto Maple Leafs as suitors ahead of the March 7 deadline. However, when it comes to the latter, the asking price might be too much according to the local fanbase.

“Sounds like trade talks are heating up around Flyers center Scott Laughton,” Di Marco shared on X. “Sources indicate Leafs and Jets are two of the teams who have shown the most interest, but a handful of teams are in the mix.”

Di Marco went on to explain what it may take for the Maple Leafs to grab Laughton, and he believes it involves prospect Fraser Minten.

“As for the actual return, Fraser Minten’s name has been tied to the Flyers; given the team’s lack of center depth, Minten would check a much-needed box in the pipeline.

“Overall, a first-round selection (or prospect / player equivalent) is what the Flyers will want as a starting point - not the end all - in a package for Laughton. The Leafs do not have a first-round pick in 2025, but the Flyers are open to the pick being in 2026, too.”

Laughton has been linked to Toronto in the past and now rumours are only intensifying. He has a $3 million cap hit until the end of the 2025-26 season, which might be too much as of now for the Maple Leafs, though Di Marco points out the transaction could also see another piece involved to make the numbers work.

“If the return is sufficient enough, perhaps the Flyers would take back a player like David Kampf and the remaining two years on his contract at a $2.4 million cap hit.”

However, the hard part would be for GM Brad Treliving to give Minten away. He is one of Toronto’s only true exciting prospects and was often mentioned as a somewhat of an untouchable for the Maple Leafs.

If Treliving, as fans hope, refuses to part with Minten, the Flyers could make a deal with the Jets, who could offer up a first round pick in the deal.

Giving up Minten is a lot to ask and might be a deal breaker here, or part of a monster trade. We shall find out before March 7.
