Jake Evans is done in Montreal.
After 6 seasons with the Canadiens, it seems Jake Evans' time in Montreal is coming to an end.
It appears as though time has run out for 28 year old forward Jake Evans in Montreal.
On Sunday, National Hockey League insider Pierre LeBrun reported that Evans and the Montreal Canadiens were not on the same page when it comes to a new deal. According to LeBrun, the two sides have exchanged numbers and it would appear that the two camps aren't close when it comes to what Evans' next contract should look like.
That may not be the worst case scenario for the Canadiens who have plummeted down the standings after going 2-7-1 over the course of their last 10 games, with teams around the league reportedly interested in acquiring Evans ahead of the trade deadline.
Evans has appeared in 56 games for the Canadiens this season, scoring 11 goals and adding 16 assists for a total of 27 points, and he is currently on the kind of contract that would appeal to playoff contenders. Not only is Evans in the final year of a 3 year deal, which would make him a rental ahead of the deadline, but he comes at a very reasonable cap hit of just $1.7 million which is the kind of number that even cap strapped teams can work around.
It seems Evans himself may realize where things are currently headed with the Canadiens forward recently being asked what it meant for him to be a member of such a historic organization, with Evans responding in the past tense.
"It’s been an honor," said Evans. "It’s such a fun place to play, it’s such a great place to live, and I’ve just really enjoyed it. It’s truly an honor. There’s so much tradition here, so many great players that have worn this great jersey with pride, and it’s truly an honor."
