UPDATE: With forward Joel Eriksson-Ek out of the lineup with an injury and with Jakub Lauko drawing back into the lineup, the Minnesota Wild have placed veteran defenseman Travis Dermott on waivers so that they can call up an additional forward from the AHL's Iowa Wild.

The Minnesota Wild just can't catch a break on the injury front this season.

The team has played without captain Jared Spurgeon and without superstar Kirill Kaprizov for the majority of the season at this point, Kaprizov is still out long-term thanks to an unspecified injury and surgery, and now it looks like they'll be without first line center Joel Eriksson-Ek.

Wild insider Michael Russo reports that Eriksson-Ek was injured in practice this week and will be out of the team's lineup for "a lot longer" than the IR-mandated week long period:

That's tough...

For a team that has already lost 147-man games due to injury this season... that's tough.

We'll wait to hear how long Eriksson-Ek is out of the lineup, but the news from GM Guerin isn't great on Kaprizov either

“I think he’s going to be out longer than we originally expected. How much, I cannot answer,” Guerin told KFAN radio in Minneapolis this past weekend. “I just don’t know, we’ll see how he progresses. That’s really where we’re at.

“He’s just recovering right now, and we’ll see how it turns out, but he’s going to be a little longer than we expected. And what that does with our (salary) cap situation? I don’t know because when he’s healthy, we’ll put him back in. If he’s not, then we won’t.”

As for Eriksson-Ek, the Swedish centerman was having a bit of a rough season following last year's breakout campaign. While he managed 30 goals and 64 points in 77 games last season, the 28 year old has just nine goals and 24 points in 42 games this season.
