Goalie Jack Campbell has re-entered the mix as he’s been doing very well in the American Hockey League. In his last seven games with AHL Bakersfield, Campbell has a .935 save percentage. When he was first sent down to the Condors, Campbell struggles badly, losing four of his first five games while giving up 16 goals on 138 shots. This even prompted some talks that the Edmonton Overs could want him back after captain Connor McDavid spoke of the netminder in a recent 32 Thoughts podcast.

David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period believes the Oilers could use Campbell in a trade, especially since general manager Ken Holland is believed to be focused on improving the back end. Therefore, Pagnotta reports the possibility of the Philadelphia Flyers having interest in Campbell for a trade that would involve defenseman Sean Walker.

“They [Oilers] like Walker, and the Flyers are not only willing to retain part of his contract, but they are also willing to take on a salary if incentivized to do so,” Pagnotta writes.

It could be possible that the Oilers are going after Walker in Philadelphia: he’s a top trade target ahead of the March 8 deadline. However, insider Frank Seravalli recently reported that the Flyers are looking for a first-round pick for him. The Flyers acquired Walker from the Los Angeles Kings this past summer as a cap dump, and he has since been a fixture on their blue liner, recording five goals and 18 points, which puts him on pace to pass his career-high of 26 points.

Walker is a pending unrestricted free agent and could get a good return to the Flyers, but maybe not a first-rounder. It could come down to Campbell and a later pick if the Oilers pitch it well.

Let’s see where this rumour goes in the coming month.
