Brad Marchand takes out a full page ad in the Boston Globe.
Brad Marchand makes sure everyone hears his message after being traded by the Bruins.
If you're a Boston Bruins fan that is already upset at your team for trading away long time forward and beloved Bruins captain Brad Marchand... then you may want to look away now if you want to avoid feeling even more depressed about the entire situation.
On Monday, the now former captain of the Boston Bruins took out a full page ad in the Boston Globe to make sure that everyone heard the final message he had to share with fans in Boston, a city that he represented, bled and sweat for for the better part of two decades.
It was a beautiful message and one that spoke to the man Marchand has grown into since his debut as a member of the Boston Bruins, one that is understandably much more mature and wise than when he first arrived on the scene all the way back when he made his debut during the 2009-10 National Hockey League season.
For the sake of preserving Marchand's message, here it is unedited and in full:
To Boston,
Thank you for welcoming me into this great city when I was just a young Canadian kid looking to break it into the best league in the world. You allowed me to achieve my dream of playing in the National Hockey League and winning the Stanley Cup. For this I am forever grateful. You also embraced me from day one and immediately brought me into your family. Since that time, I have become a husband and a father to a beautiful family. My family is your family: we are Bostonians now and forever.
Representing this city as captain of the Boston Bruins was the greatest honor of my life, and it was a privilege to wear the spoked b over the past 16 years. Boston will always be a part of me, and it will always be a part of my family. There are far too many people I want to thank to be able to include in this short note, but just know how grateful I am for the time I spent in Boston playing for the Bruins.
Thank you.
It is a message that I feel will be viewed in a variety of ways depending how you view the situation, but for long time fans of the Boston Bruins I fear that it is a message that will only add to the heartbreak fans are already feeling after Marchand was traded for what most feel was a meager return.
