All details ironed out in Brad Marchand’s stunning trade and it gets even more shocking!

This trade was not for the faint of heart. And probably not the Boston Bruins’ fanbase’s favourite deal of the day.

Brad Marchand was traded by the Bruins to the division rivals Florida Panthers in exchange for a 2027 second-round pick, which could turn into a 2028 first-round pick.

And apparently, the Bruins will not be getting more than this, which is nearly not enough for Boston.

The conditional pick becomes a first if Marchand plays a certain percentage of games in playoffs. Marchand has to play at least 50% of the Florida playoff games, for it to upgrade to a first, per Panthers GM Bill Zito.

The Bruins also retained half of Marchand's cap in the transaction.

This is a stunning move all around. I mean the guy has been a staple in Boston, leading the team to their first Stanley Cup championship in 39 years back in 2011. He was a core piece of a franchise that won three Presidents’ Trophies (2014, 2020, 2023), five division titles (2011, 2012, 2014, 2020, and 2023), and made three Stanley Cup Final appearances (2011, 2013, 2019).

Marchand has 21 goals and 47 points in 61 games with the Bruins this season. He is a pending free agent and rumours had started to emerge that contract negotiations were moving along. He is in the final season of an eight-year, $49 million contract that carries a cap hit of $6.125 million.

Selected 71st overall by the Bruins in 2006, Marchand has 422 goals and 976 points in 1,090 career games over 16 seasons in Boston.

As of now, Marchand is out with an upper-body injury from a hit that sent him face-first into the boards in the opening period of a win Saturday at Pittsburgh. The Bruins did not share a timeline for Marchand's recovery, though he is believed to be out for a few weeks, which most likely led to a lower return.

This is the end of an era in Boston. And unfortunately for the Bruins, they sold Marchand for way too little in return.
