Trade brewing between Red Wings and Rangers?

This one could get done shortly with weeks to go ahead of the deadline. Full details down here:

Nothing is expected to change the mind of New York Rangers general manager Chris Drury, who is set on being sellers ahead of the March 7 trade deadline. Drury was already quite busy earlier in the season when he shipped out captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks and forward Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken, and could focus on shipping out more players at the deadline, including blue liner Ryan Lindgren.

According to Remy Mastey of the Hockey News, who cited Daily Face-off’s Frank Seravalli, Lindgren is seen as a good fit for the Detroit Red Wings who could look to make a trade happen in the coming weeks.

“I wonder about Detroit. Is he that big of an upgrade, though? That’s the question I’d have to ask,” Seravalli said. “And I don’t know how big the Red Wings are gonna spend…”

As of now, the Wings continue to push for a playoff spot after getting back on tracks under new head coach Todd McLellan. Lindgren could be an affordable option for added depth on the back end.

Lindgren’s future in New York has come into question recently, and seeing that he is set to become an unrestricted free agent next season, he ended up at the center of multiple trade rumors.

On top of that, the Rangers are currently outside of a wild card spot and Drury could therefore consider moving Lindgren to Detroit, where it would be a great fit, ahead of March 7.

This season, Lindgren has recorded two goals, eight assists and 10 points in 37 games while averaging 19:51 minutes with a -4 rating.

Unless there is a significant rally in the standings, there is a strong feeling that the Rangers will be sellers at the deadline and that Lindgren will be one of the players on the move.
