Washington Capitals enforcer Tom Wilson reveals a gruesome injury to his face in post game interview.

The Washington Capitals picked up a big win at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Saturday night, defeating the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 4-2, and they managed to do so in part thanks to the heroics of Capitals enforcer Tom Wilson.

Wilson was shaken up badly during the game's opening period when he took a puck to the side of the face, with Wilson immediately reacting as if he had been seriously injured. Wilson isn't the type of player to embellish an injury so there was immediate concern for his well being, with Wilson leaving the ice less than 12 minutes into the game and looking like he was in agony as he did so.

Incredibly, Wilson would not only return to the game in spite of the injury but would play a pivotal role in the win, picking up a pair of goals for his team in spite of some very real damage to his face.

You could see the that situation was bad when Wilson got back on the Capitals bench with his face looking like it was trying to grow a second head from inside of his right cheek.

It wasn't until Wilson spoke to the media during his post game media availability however that we really got to see how gruesome things were with Wilson's face swelling up like he had a beach ball in his mouth.

Coincidentally, it was also Wilson's first time seeing just how severe the injury to his face was as well.

Here's another look at a pair of close up photographs of the swelling:

There's never been any doubt that Wilson is truly a warrior out there on the ice and if anything he only added to his already impressive reputation when it comes to his toughness.
