Loud boos erupt in New York during Canadian anthem on Friday night
Angry American hockey fans drown out the Canadian national anthem on Friday at MSG. Watch what happened this time below:
For weeks now, it has been an added element to most NHL games : the national anthems and whether one or both will be booed. It’s happened as tensions continue to flare between the nations after U.S. President Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Canada. Trump also suggested the country could become America’s ‘51st state’, prompting backlash from a close neighbor and longtime ally.
Tensions also went up a notch when Team Canada beat the Americans in overtime at the 4 nations tournament, and have only gotten worse since thanks to the President himself.
Trump made a fool of himself on Friday when he and and vice-president JD Vance met with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy who accused him of “disrespectful” behaviour during their talks in the Oval Office. His visit to the White House was cut short after he got into a heated exchange with Trump and Vance. The actions of the American leaders only got people, especially in Canada, fed up and dumbfounded by his behaviour.
Later on Friday, the Toronto Maple Leafs took on the Rangers at the Madison Square Garden in New York and during the Canadian anthem, loud boos erupted from the audience.

I’m not surprised about the boos, but fed up, yes.
