Oilers/Flames game put on pause due to medical emergency.
The Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers have been forced to halt their game on Saturday night.
I can only hope that everyone is going to be ok.
Fans tuning in to tonight's game between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames have been hit with a bit of an unexpected situation after the game was forced to come to a halt due to a medical emergency. None of the players, coaches, or officials involved in the game have been injured but instead there appears to have been some kind of incident among the fans in attendance.
There was initially a long delay as medical professionals did their best to aid the fan that was in distress, but play did not resume and the players would eventually head back into the locker room. It seems that the National Hockey League itself made the decision to call the period early, although details are still sparse at this time.
According to several eyewitnesses, medical professionals were seen performing CPR on an individual behind the Calgary Flames bench.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman shared some insights on the process that is taking place in this situation.
"The way it works is when something unfortunate like that occurs it is the league's call," said Elliotte Friedman on Hockey Night in Canada. "They won't restart the game until a new ambulance is there, and also are the various physicians who are involved, especially if they are team physicians, are they still busy, are they still trying to help the patient? Until they are relieved and able to come back they don't start the game."
Again I can only hope that the person or persons who needed emergency medical assistance are going to be alright.
