Don Cherry makes a heartbreaking announcement on Saturday.

Don Cherry shares some gut-wrenching news on Saturday morning.

Canadian legend Don Cherry has just made an announcement, one made as a proud father, but unfortunately it is an announcement that comes tainted with a dose of heartbreaking reality.

On Saturday morning, Don announced that the book written by his daughter Cindy Cherry had finally been completed and was set to go on sale. The book, titled The Don Cherry Story, was a biography of Don's life but with the unique twist of being written from the perspective of his daughter who was there every step of the way as the incredible events of his life unfolded.

As many of you reading this will already know, Cindy Cherry sadly passed away suddenly this summer at just 67 years of age with Don announcing on Saturday that her untimely death occurred "just as Cindy was finishing the book." No doubt Don is incredibly proud of the work his daughter put into this book but there was no denying the heartbreaking reality that Cindy is no longer here to enjoy the fruits of her labor.

On a more positive note, it has been announced that a portion of the proceeds for this work will be donated to the Don Cherry's Pet Rescue Foundation, a foundation that was established by Cindy Cherry herself. Cindy was inspired to create the foundation after her own life changing experience rescuing an elderly dog named Lucy, and worked tirelessly towards saving the lives of countless animals over the foundations history.

On a more hockey-related note, Don claims that his daughter Cindy "jumped right into" the details behind his firing at Rogers and added that she "she doesn't hold back" in the book about that incident 6 years ago, one that remains highly controversial to this day. It will no doubt be extremely interesting to read the Cherry family's perspective on that incident.

And finally to end on a positive note, I am proud to report that the hockey community has once again shown it's true colors by displaying nothing but class in the responses to today's difficult announcement from Don. Here are just a few examples:
