Throwback to one of the most entertaining playoffs series’ of the 1990s: Los Angeles Kings vs Toronto Maple Leafs, ’93 Western Conference Final.
It’s a series that lives on in infamy due to Wayne Gretzky’s unpenalized high stick on Doug Gilmour in Game 7 of the series, but it was Leafs captain Wendel Clark and Kings pugilist Marty McSorely who turned up the intensity earlier in the series.
After McSorely came across the ice to obliterate Leafs superstar Doug Gilmour in open ice, Clark drops the gloves and absolutely beats the wheels off the bigger and more physically imposing McSorely. Of course, this wasn’t the first time Clark took on a bigger opponent though. While Clark may not have been the biggest fighter in his day, he was arguably the toughest.
What resulted was an absolutely classic fight that still resonates as one of the best Stanley Cup Playoff tilts of all time.

That’s old time, hockey baby!
Clark and McSorely just throwing BOMBS while the linesman let them go at it. Gilmour and Glenn Anderson going at the Kings’ bench. Pat Burns and Barry Melrose trying to get at each other between the benches. These are things you’ll NEVER see in an NHL game these days. Oh, how times have changed…
