This just in, former Calgary Flames and Carolina Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters has been fired by the KHL's Avtomobilist Yekaterinburg.

From Avtomobilist (translated from Russian):

HC Avtomobilist decided to terminate cooperation with Canadian specialist Bill Peters. The coach, who has been leading the team for a year and a half, is leaving Avtomobilist. We thank Bill for his work in our club and wish you a successful continuation of your professional career!

Peters had been with the team for two years, and they currently sit dead last in their division with a 14-20 record.

Prior to that, of course, Peters was forced to resign from his position with the Flames in shame after it was uncovered that he had used racist language in dealing with players during his time with the Chicago Blackhawks' AHL affiliate Rockford IceHogs.

In November of 2019 former IceHogs player Akim Aliu accused Peters of using racial slurs when addressing him in front of his teammates.

“He walked in before a morning pre-game skate and said ‘Hey Akim, I’m sick of you playing that n----- s---,’ ” Aliu told TSN, with Peters, who was then the Ice Hogs head coach, referring to Aliu’s selection of hip-hop music. “He said ‘I’m sick of hearing this n-----s f------ other n-----s in the ass stuff.’

Following that bombshell of a report former Hurricanes forward Michal Jordan alleged that Peters had kicked him and punched a teammate during a game.

The Flames essentially suspended Peters while they held an investigation into the allegations. Peters submitted his resignation less than a week after Aliu's allegations came to light and he was essentially banished to the KHL.

“This isn’t me being bitter. I sat on this a really, really long time. It broke my heart, I think it made my career go downhill before it started,” Aliu said after Peters resigned. “This isn’t to the degree of Kaepernick by any means, but if you play the race card, it’s most likely the end of your career.”

By all accounts though, Peters still hasn't apologized to Aliu.

“There isn’t much that you can do or say to me that I can’t accept an apology for,” Aliu said. “He wasn’t man enough to apologize to me and move on.”
