Thieves target minor hockey tournament holding Christmas raffle.
Disgusting.
Unfortunately there are people in the world who will stoop to just about any level to get what they want, and even more unfortunate is the fact that it often comes at the cost of unfortunate innocents.
We are now hearing reports out of Alberta that indicate that a minor hockey tournament in the province has been robbed. Robbing a minor hockey tournament, an event put on for young children and teenagers who in this case are all under the age of 13, would be disgusting enough in it's own right, but these thieves chose to rob this particular tournament during a Christmas raffle. The thieves were likely fully aware that the raffle was going on, and as a result they made off with goods that would otherwise have been included as a part of the raffle.
Here is a message from one concerned parent, Karen Hach:
Sad news hockey families…Our Millet tournament was robbed last night. Literally. Thieves broke into the arena and stole our liquor and wine baskets, as well as dozens of prizes. Our winners have generously forfeited their winnings, but we are still on the losing end.
Please help us by donating below and possibly winning the 50/50
I am happy to report that a large number of donations have come pouring in today as news began to make its way across social media, and thankfully they are still coming in every few minutes as the raffle quickly draws to a close. If you feel so inclined to support this effort you can do so here, but please don't feel any pressure to do so if you don't have the means.
The Millet Minor Hockey Association has also released a statement on this matter:
On behalf of Millet Minor Hockey Association & Board, we want to say how sorry we are to hear that the Millet Arena was broken into last night!! And that the prizes/raffles were stolen from the host team, the St. Albert Raiders.
I'm only speculating here but I doubt that thieves would normally target a hockey arena. It seems likely that the people who committed these acts were fully aware of the upcoming raffle, and hopefully that will help narrow the search for law enforcement.
