The Buffalo Sabres are in trouble. On Wednesday, their goalie Aaron Dell was suspended three games for interference on Ottawa Senators forward Drake Batherson on Tuesday night. After Dell settled the puck behind the net for his defenseman Mattias Samuelsson to pick up, the goaliue shielded Samuelsson as Batherson came chasing around the cage. Dell proceeded to elbow Batherson, sending him awkwardly feet first into the boards. The Senators’ top scorer stayed on the ice in visible distress before going to the dressing room. He was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain and is forced to miss the All-Star Game. No penalty was called on the play.

While we get that he deserved a suspension, this along with the Sabres’ latest news puts the team in deep trouble. Buffalo is out of goalie.

On Friday, it was announced that Michael Houser, who was their only healthy goalie on an NHL contract, has been placed on COVID protocols.

As insider John Vogl points out, Craig Anderson (upper body) and Dustin Tokarski (lingering effects of COVID-19) are practicing, but neither is guaranteed to be ready Saturday when the Sabres face the Arizona Coyotes.

The Sabres already have used six starting goaltenders this season. And there is no one left…
