Team Canada makes bittersweet roster announcement for 4 Nations Face-Off
Hard choices were made. See who made the cut here below:
On Wednesday, Team Canada made its official roster announcement for the NHL’s 4 Nations Face-Off and this is who the lineup will include:
GOALIES
Adin Hill, Vegas Golden Knights
Jordan Binnington, St. Louis Blues
Sam Montembeault, Montreal Canadiens
DEFENSEMEN
Cale Makar, Colorado Avalanche
Devon Toews, Colorado Avalanche
Shea Theodore, Vegas Golden Knights
Alex Pietrangelo, Vegas Golden Knights
Josh Morrissey, Winnipeg Jets
Travis Sanheim, Philadelphia Flyers
Colton Parayko, St. Louis Blues
FORWARDS
Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins
Nathan MacKinnon, Colorado Avalanche
Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers
Brayden Point, Tampa Bay Lightning
Brad Marchand, Boston Bruins
Seth Jarvis, Carolina Hurricanes
Brandon Hagel, Tampa Bay Lightning
Sam Reinhart, Florida Panthers
Sam Bennett, Florida Panthers
Mitch Marner, Toronto Maple Leafs
Anthony Cirelli, Tampa Bay Lightning
Mark Stone, Vegas Golden Knights
Travis Konecny, Philadelphia Flyers
The choice was probably not that easy for the front office of Team Canada with many honourable mentions going to forwards like : John Tavares, Toronto Maple Leafs; Dylan Strome, Washington Capitals; Nick Suzuki, Montreal Canadiens; Mathew Barzal, New York Islanders; Alexis Lafreniere, New York Rangers, and defensemen like Dougie Hamilton, New Jersey Devils; Drew Doughty, Los Angeles Kings.
Many fans would have also loved to see Marc-Andre Fleury in between the pipes for Canada one last time before he calls it a career.
The most glaring omission for many comes in Edmonton Oilers’ Zach Hyman, who did not make the cut. Along with teammate Evan Bouchard, he will miss out on the Tournament despite his easy chemistry with McDavid. Hyman is coming off a 70-goal season (postseason included) with the Oilers’ captain.
Also, Leafs’ Tavares has been in great form this season and some would have thought he deserved to make the team. The same could be said of Jets’ Mark Scheifele and some of Blackhawks’ young star Connor Bedard.
Can Canada win it all with this roster?
