NHL hockey will return to Quebec City this year.
A great bit of news for fans of the NHL in Quebec City, with multiple NHL games coming this year.
Fans in Quebec City have been deprived of a National Hockey League franchise for nearly 3 decades, ever since it was announced in 1995 that the Quebec Nordiques had been sold and would be relocated to Denver, Colorado.
Since that time both the fans and the city itself have tried their best to get an NHL team back in Quebec City but unfortunately their efforts have been futile with multiple expansion teams popping up around the NHL but Quebec City continuing to be neglected by the league. Thankfully it seems that one NHL owner is aware of the plight of the fans in Quebec City and he is now going the extra mile to bring back NHL hockey back to the city.
On Sunday, Ottawa Senators insider Bruce Garrioch announced that Senators owner Michael Andlauer would hold a press conference on Monday to announce a pair of NHL games coming to Quebec City. Now unfortunately these will not be regular season games and will instead be exhibition games, with the games sounding like they will occur during the preseason, but one of those games is expected to feature both the Senators and the Montreal Canadiens. Additionally, it sounds like the Senators will also be holding part of their training camp in Quebec City as well, giving the hockey starved fans in that city something to look forward to.
While this isn't the return of the Nordiques that many fans have been hoping for, it is at least the start of something and no doubt fans in the city will be grateful to Andlauer when the news is officially announced on Monday.
Stay tuned for this one, as hopefully it may be the start of something that fans in Quebec City have been begging for over the last 30 years.
