It is supposed to be a joyous time of the year, one where we get together with the ones we love and enjoy good company and good times. Unfortunately though the last few years have drastically changed that for many of us around the world, and I am unhappy to report that this appears to be the case for Washington Capitals star T.J. Oshie this year as well.
Oshie is of course happily married to his beautiful wife Lauren and the young couple has 3 beautiful children together, daughters Lyla and Leni and the couple's youngest child is a boy named Campbell, but unfortunately it sounds like he may have been forced to stay away from his family during a time he should be celebrating.
Not only are we in the holiday season but Oshie's birthday also happens to fall on the 23rd of December, just 2 days ago. On Friday Oshie let it be known that he had celebrated his birthday while in quarantine, a quarantine that came after he was once again added to the National Hockey League's Covid protocol list earlier this week. Oshie thanked all the fans who had thought of him on his birthday, but his comments about the quarantine made it sound like he was definitely not happy about it.
"Thanks all for the birthday wishes," wrote Oshie on Friday. "Gotta love a quarantine bday! Merry Christmas Eve!!"
You can hardly blame Oshie for not wanting to spend his birthday stuck in quarantine, and with him entering the Covid protocol on the 19th of December, there's a chance he could still be stuck in quarantine through Christmas unless he has had 2 consecutive negative tests. It sounds like the prospect of spending the holidays with his extended family might also be off the table, given the NHL's enhanced Covid rules that were announced just 1 day before Oshie entered the protocol.
A segment from those new rules:
Holiday celebrations, which should be limited to the greatest extent possible. All individuals should limit both the number of people and the number of different households to which they are exposed.
Hopefully both he and the Oshie family can still find a way to have a Merry Christmas.
