Sons of three NHL stars join Mario Lemieux’s son at ASU for 2019-20
Confirmed: I’m getting so damn old.

Hockey fans of a certain age have had the privilege of watching the next generation of prominent hockey families reach the NHL lately, most notably with the emergence of Keith Tkachuk’s sons Matthew Tkachuk and Brady Tkachuk. Look closer around the league though and you’ll notice other familiar names like Foligno, Chelios, DeBrusk, Domi, Donato, Lowe and others, as well.
Now it appears that another crop of bloodline talent is on track to the NHL and… get this… they’re all playing together on the same team for the upcoming 2019-20 season. Arizona State University of the NCAA announced yesterday that joining Austin Lemieux, son of Hall of Famer Mario Lemieux, will be Jackson Niedermayer, son of Scott Niedermayer, Joshua Doan, son of Shane Doan, and Carson Briere, son of Daniel Briere.
How cool does this sound?
“Niedermayer skates it up the ice, dishes to Lemieux who springs a streaking Doan to the net and Briere bangs home the rebound!”
Talk about star power!
Of course, it’s unfair to put such high expectations on these kids. After all, they’re walking in the shadows of Hall of Famers. Still, as an old time hockey fan with a love for 1990s style hockey, it’s incredible cool to see these bloodlines carry on into the next generation.
