Shocking trade scenario sends goalie Jeremy Swayman out of Boston!
The proposal is controversial, though some fear it could take place. Full details below:
The Boston Bruins waited long after goalie Jeremy Swayman, who finally missed training camp before agreeing to a massive eight-year, $66 million contract that he has failed to live up to. So much so, that Jimmy Murphy of the Sick Podcast put a claim out that the Bruins should trade the netminder.
When he first threw the idea out there, Murphy did not reveal his reasoning behind the proposal, only putting out a poll on his post asking if fans agree or not, in which 46.4% of fans agreed, and 53.6% disagreed. He said he would explain the following day on his podcast.
Murphy hasn’t addressed his shocking proposal yet and some wonder if it’s more a desire than an actual sensible transaction. When fans reacted to his poll, Murphy did seem to have an issue with Swayman during the postseason, which could be added to his reasoning behind wanting better in net for that amount of money.
If you look at the numbers from Swayman, they certainly don’t fit with the numbers in his bank account. He’s recorded a 3.03 GAA and an .895 save percentage, and with Boston fighting hard in the Wild Card race in the Eastern Conference, there’s a chance they miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs all together.
However, moving Swayman, on paper, looks like a terrible mistake. The Bruins would be without an immediate answer as their No. 1 if this were to happen, though they would have cap space to address it. But with Boston on the verge of retooling and getting younger, having stability in net will play a huge role for this franchise moving forward. They cannot part with Swayman even if he has let a lot of people down this season.
But the goalie deserves to get some time to turn things around and maybe, MAYBE, this idea can be revisited at this time next season if the situation in between the pipes has not improved.
