The Toronto Maple Leafs ran out of time on Tuesday night to make a come back and ultimately loss 4-3 to the Philadelphia Flyers. After the game, head coach Sheldon Keefe met with reporters and knew exactly who was to blame for the team’s loss. Himself.
When asked how he felt about the team’s poor luck as his players caught six posts in the game, Keefe responded by taking blame for the team’s poor first period, choosing to blame the loss on that, rather than bad luck.
“We weren’t ready to go, that’s on me, to start the game in the first period, and dig yourselves a hole. It’s amazing when you do that, all the sudden, luck doesn’t go your way.”
While this may sound like a honest statement from the Leafs’ bench boss, he also had something to say about his entire roster, calling them out for their poor performance. He specifically noted that his players were not focused as they continued to make mistakes with execution.
“Just weren’t sharp. We weren’t sharp mentally, couldn’t pass the puck, couldn’t handle puck, didn’t defend, didn’t compete. So not a lot to like.”
He added how he wasn’t pleased with anyone on his team: “I didn’t like anybody — forwards, defense, or goaltending.”
Alright so the presser started off with the head coach blaming himself, but he quickly turned his attention to the entire team not being able to execute. Aren’t they supposed to put in motion what the head coach has planned? Maybe it all comes back to you, Sheldon…
