We don’t expected defenseman Shea Weber to play in the NHL ever again.

On Monday, it was the Montreal Canadiens’ team photo day and it was quickly noticed that Weber was not in the shot. He wasn’t even there, he was nowhere to be found like he has been ever since then-general manager Marc Bergevin announced that the veteran defenseman would likelynever play another game in the NHL because of lingering injuries.

Brendan Kelly of the Montreal Gazette has had enough of the deafening silence when it comes to Weber, who is still getting paid by the Canadiens as he sits on the long-term injured reserve.

While Kelly applauses the astonishing work done by Chantale Machabee for fans’ relations, he cannot believe Weber’s behaviour. Here is how he called him out:

“It’s astonishing Weber never thought it was worth his while to explain to his fans what was going on with his injuries and his career.

“But I’m officially calling him out on his behaviour this season. This is the exact opposite of leadership. Leaders don’t hide. Leaders come out and explain themselves even if it’s not the easiest thing to do.

“Weber has instead shown contempt for his fans by refusing to speak to them and Habs management has missed a fantastic opportunity to be transparent and open with those same fans.

“He’s on long-term injured reserve, which means that he still gets paid and the team doesn’t have to include his US$7.8-million cap hit. In other words, it’s a dream scenario for both parties. The only losers are the fans who are left out in the cold.”

No holding back here…

I have to admit I want surprised that Weber was not there for the picture. A last one as captain before the team names a new one next season. But Weber has been quiet all along… I guess I kinda expect it. But Kelly has clearly had enough. About you?
