Shawn Weller comes off the bench to defend his captain.
Weller was not hapy.
Things got a little crazy on Friday night during a game in the ECHL contested between the Adirondack Thunder and the Newfoundland Growlers.
It seems like Adirondack Thunder forward Shawn Weller is going to find himself looking at a suspension after he came off the bench roughly midway through the game to start throwing hands.
Weller took exception to a hit that was delivered by Growlers defenseman Chris Martenet, one that was targeted at Adirondack Thunder captain Shane Harper. Regardless of what you thought of the original hit, it was clear that Weller was having none of it and he hopped off the bench and made a beeline straight towards Martenet.
The wildest part of the video is that the officials on the ice, at least one of them, saw Weller coming but were entirely powerless to stop the enraged forward from delivering a measure of revenge on Martenet.
And if you're worried that Weller may have hurt his own team in the process with such a reckless disregard for the rules of the game, don't worry too much. The Thunder themselves were celebrating the whole affair on their official social media accounts, which you can see just below:
