Several signs of a big shake up coming for the Buffalo Sabres.
The Buffalo Sabres have cancelled their practice at the Bell Centre on Monday.
There are now several indicators pointing to a major shake up on the horizon for the Buffalo Sabres.
On Monday morning, National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman reported on a rumor that suggested Sabres owner Terry Pegula was headed to Montreal to personally meet with his team following their 10 game winless streak, the worst such streak in the NHL this season.
"There's a rumor going around that Terry Pegula, the owner, may be going to Montreal to meet the team on Monday," revealed Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. "That means to me one of two things, either he's making changes or he's saying 'this is the group and this is who we are going with.'"
Friedman shared his belief that this type of move from an owner is unusual in the NHL.
"It's not often that an owner goes on the road either with the team or to meet the team so obviously it's a big day and a big meeting for the Sabres," said Friedman.
What we do know for certain is that the Sabres did indeed hold a team meeting on Monday and regardless of the contents of that meeting it sounds like it has taken a toll on the players in the Sabres locker room. According to a report from Montreal Canadiens insider Eric Engels, the Sabres have now cancelled their scheduled practice at the Bell Centre today following that meeting.
Engels shared a video of the Sabres players leaving the meeting and speaking to one another alongside his announcement regarding their cancelled practice.
No one knows just yet what is expected to come of all this, but you know for certain that if the owner is displeased enough to travel all the way to Montreal to meet with his players that significant changes are likely just around the corner.
