Ryan Getzlaf officially lands new NHL gig
The former Ducks captain is back in the game!
The National Hockey League Department of Player Safety has come under scrutiny and heavy criticism in recent years for what many fans perceive as a two-tiered system of justice under George Parros, but a new hire could have a say in improving things.
According to multiple reports, former Anaheim Ducks captain (and Parros teammate) Ryan Getzlaf is joining the department, which was later confirmed by Parros himself.
“We are thrilled to welcome Ryan as the newest member of our department," Parros said. "His accomplishments on the ice speak for themselves: he won at every level and was widely respected for being a hard-nosed and highly-skilled Player and effective leader. From his rookie NHL season in 2005 until his recent retirement, he lived and played through many of the changes our game has seen, which will provide our group with unique and valuable perspective moving forward.”
Getzlaf spent his entire NHL career with the Ducks after being taken in Round 1 of the loaded 2003 NHL Draft, scoring 282 goals with 737 assists in 1,157 regular season games. He also added 37 goals and 83 assists in 125 postseason games, helping the Ducks to the 2007 Stanley Cup. He also represented his native Canada on multiple occasions on the International stage.
He continues to hold Ducks franchise records of games played, assists, points and assists per game.
