Report: Suspension coming after dirty hit on Elias Pettersson?

NHL Player Safety is on the case!

Trevor Connors

UPDATE: An earlier version of this article confused Elias Pettersson (F) for Elias Pettersson (D)... go figure.

In case you missed it last night, the Vancouver Canucks managed some late game heroics to tie things up against divisional rival Calgary Flames and went on to win the game in a shootout.

Canucks forward Elias Pettersson factored large into the win for Vancouver, scoring the game tying goal with just six minutes left in regulation.

Pettersson also had an assist and a shootout goal for the Canucks, but his counterpart defenseman Elias Pettersson had a more difficult game.

Pettersson, D Petey as Canucks fans call him,  took a nasty elbow to the head from Flames forward Connor Zary in retaliation for an earlier hit on Flames veteran Nazem Kadri.

Check it out:

Zary received just a two minute minor penalty on the play, but he was contacted by NHL Player Safety this morning and now will be subject to a fine or suspension.

Zary has no history of supplemental discipline with NHL Player Safety.

So... how many games does he get? This is an intentional head shot that didn't appear to have any lasting effects on Pettersson. My bet is on a one game suspension or a $5,000 fine.
