Report: McDavid to undergo surgery, Draisaitl with multiple broken bones

UPDATE: Multiple insiders are reporting that Edmonton Oilers captain is expected to undergo abdominal surgery to repair a nagging injury. Additionally, assistant captain Leon Draisaitl reportedly played through a broken finger and broken ribs.

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid was the first member of his team to meet with the media following last night's Game 7 loss to the Florida Panthers.

Man, you've just GOT to feel for this guy.

He's the best player in the NHL and it's not even close. Hell, he may be the best player in all of professional sports. He will his team down from down 0-3 to give themselves a shot at a championship that no one thought possible. In the end, the task proved too difficult but McDavid was just good enough to make us all believe for a moment.

Florida Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk has become the first Tkachuk to hoist the Stanley Cup.

Tkachuk and the Panthers finally, mercifully clinched the Stanley Cup this evening with a 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.

And when Tkachuk hoisted the Cup he made sure to find his family in the crowd, including father Keith Tkachuk and brother Brady Tkachuk so that he could celebrate in clear view of them. Brady, captain Ottawa Senators, appeared overcome with emotion in the moment.

Connor McDavid has won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Stanley Cup Playoffs MVP.

McDavid becomes the first forward from a losing team to win the award since Philadelphia Flyers forward Reggie Leach won the award in 1976.

McDavid was not on the ice to accept the award, as he and his Oilers teammates had already departed the ice for their dressing room.
