Report: Canucks GM now considering moving another top forward

UPDATE 2: In addition to our earlier reports on all the trade action around the Vancouver Canucks' forward JT Miller, the Canucks are now reportedly considering trading sniper Brock Boeser.

“We’re still evaluating him,” Allvin said when asked about the potential of trading Boeser. “I have a great relationship with his agent, and when the time is right, we’ll make the decision.”

Boeser is, of course, a pending unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason.

“There’s two sides of it too. It’s got to work for both sides long term. Anything can happen here, I guess, any day.”

Boeser himself admits that it's been a tough season both for himself and for his team.

“It’s been an interesting year, a lot of injuries, some distractions and stuff,” said Boeser. “It can be tough to block everything out…sometimes I feel it affects our team in some games.”

With all of the drama surrounding the team this season, there's been very little talk about Boeser's pending UFA status. In any other season he would likely be the key figure in storylines but with reports behind the scenes of feuding teammates, Boeser simply isn't the focal point this season. 

It would be a shame if the team were to let him slip through their fingers because they were too preoccupied with other issues. Stay tuned, some team could get a real diamond in the rough here if the Canucks can't get him under contract and elect to flip him at the trade deadline.

UPDATE: According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, not only are the New York Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes and New Jersey Devils in the mix to acquire Vancouver Canucks forward JT Miller but the New York Islanders may also be getting in on the action.

What's most interesting to me is that former Canucks captain Bo Horvat is a member of the Islanders and there was a perceived rift between Miller and Horvat which led to the Horvat trade.

According to multiple online reports, we now know the details of the failed trade between the Vancouver Canucks and New York Rangers from this past weekend.

Rangers insider David Upper and Canucks insider Thomas Drance are both reporting that the full deal that was on the table was Filip Chytil, Ryan Lindgren and a 1st round pick from the Rangers in exchange for JT Miller from the Canucks.

However, talks broke down when the two sides couldn't come to an agreement on conditions of the 1st round pick headed to Vancouver.

Presumably, the two sides couldn't agree on whether or not the pick should be protected or now. Often teams will "top 10 or top 5 protect" a traded pick, meaning that if the pick were to be in the top 5 or the top 10, the Rangers would keep their pick and send the next season's pick unprotected.

Again, we don't know the conditions that were on this pick but we do know that the two teams didn't see eye to eye on conditions.

Noticeably absent from this proposed deal are forward Alexis Lafreniere and defeneman Brad Schneider, two players that the Canucks have reportedly been interested in for some time.

It remains to be seen if these two teams can come to terms on a deal, but it's clear that that Canucks GM Patrik Allvin and Rangers GM Chris Drury are itching to get a deal done.
