The Buffalo Sabres have secured the services of their young star defenseman for the next 8 years.

On Monday morning, the Sabres officially announced that they had come to terms with defenseman Rasmus Dahlin on an 8-year deal that will see 23 year old earn a whopping $88 million over the length of his new deal. That works out to an average annual value and salary cap hit of $11 million per season for Dahlin, a cap hit that won't take effect until the 2024-25 National Hockey League season.

Dahlin has been an integral part of the Sabres blue line since he was drafted first overall at the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, making an immediate impact in the NHL following his selection. The Swedish defenseman appeared in 78 games for the Sabres last season, scoring 15 goals and adding 58 assists for a total of 73 points. He also finished the season with a plus minus rating of +12 while eating up nearly 26 minutes of ice time a game on average for the Sabres.
