We have a pretty significant trade going down, one between a pair of teams that are both hoping to compete for a Stanley Cup championship in the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs.

According to multiple reports, the New York Rangers and Colorado Avalanche have agreed to a trade that involves a total of 6 pieces, with 4 players and 2 draft picks all on the move in this deal. The Rangers are giving up two of the players in this deal with both Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey being sent to the Colorado Avalanche and coming back the other way is another pair of players, Jusso Parssinen and Calvin de Haan, as well as a pair of conditional draft picks. The conditional draft picks are a second round selection and a fourth round selection, but without the full details of the conditions it remains unclear what those picks could eventually become for the Rangers.

ESPN's Emily Kaplan reports that the Rangers will be retaining 50% of Lindgren's salary in this deal.

So to break it down:

Avalanche receive:
Ryan Lindgren
Jimmy Vesey
Hank Kempf(prospect)

Rangers receive:
Jusso Parssinen
Calvin de Haan
Conditional second round pick 2025
Conditional fourth round pick 2025

It is unclear at this time if this signals the fact that the Rangers are giving up on the playoffs and will look to be sellers ahead of the National Hockey League's trade deadline on March 7th, or if there may be a follow up move on the horizon for the Rangers after this trade.

Update: Rangers prospect Hank Kempf has also been included in this deal and will now have his rights transfer to the Colorado Avalanche. Kempf is a 22 year old defenseman out of Cornell University and was selected in the 7th round (208th overall) by the New York Rangers.

Update 2: The conditional second round pick will be the highest pick between either the Rangers own second round pick or that of the Carolina Hurricanes.

The conditional fourth round pick will be the highest pick between that of the Colorado Avalanche or Vancouver Canucks pick this year.

Stay tuned for more.
