Quebec organization freezes funding to Hockey Canada in wake of scandal
The fallout continues.
Yet another organization is pulling their funding to Hockey Canada in the wake of their sexual abuse allegations scandal.
Quebec's Granby Minor Hockey Association won't be sending any more money to Hockey Canada, and coach Francois Lemay is calling on other organizations to follow suit as the hockey giant continues to work to try and repair their tarnished reputation.
"The parents' money will not go to Hockey Canada until action is taken. It's a matter of respect, and a message to our boys and our girls," Lemay told Radio-Canada.
However, according to Rémi Meunier, the general manager of Hockey Estrie, is uncomfortable with the decision, saying it could affect players not having services and funding.
"It has to be done together," he said. "We are in an extremely uncomfortable position."
Former National Hockey League goaltender Jocelyn Thibault, general director of Hockey Quebec, shared those sentiments.
"A few days, a few weeks before the start of the season, I don't see how it would be possible, to be honest," Thibault said.
