Fans were left fuming after an extremely controversial coach's challenge in Game 3.

This could very well go down as one of the truly pivotal moments in the opening round of the 2025 Stanley Cup playoffs and, if it does indeed prove to be a turning point in this series, that could mean very bad news for Los Angeles Kings head coach Jim Hiller.

Hiller's decision to challenge a goal from Edmonton Oilers forward Evander Kane in the third period of Game 3 on Friday night almost certainly cost his team the game and, considering the Kings had a 2-0 lead over the Oilers coming into Game 3, it may very well have given the Oilers some life in this series.

Hiller and the Kings were up 4-3 in the third period when Kane kicked the puck to himself and finished off a goal by pushing the puck into the net with his stick, tying up the game at 4-4. The play was initially reviewed by the league due to the kicking motion but was determined to be a good goal, and that was when Hiller and the Kings coaching staff would make a fateful decision.

Hiller and the Kings felt there had been goaltender interference on the play and issued a challenge to ask the league to review the goal a second time, which they did only to once again determine that it was a good goal. Here is a look at the replay:

This of course would hand the Oilers a power play immediately after they had just tied the game, and the Oilers would make Hiller and the Kings pay dearly for their mistake.

The response from the Kings fan base has been harsh and swift, with Hiller taking a great deal of flak for effectively costing his team a pivotal game in the series.
