Capitals get some horrible injury news after Game 1 win over Habs
The Stanley Cup contenders take a big hit.
This just in, less than 24 hours after winning Game 1 of their opening round playoff series against the Montreal Canadiens, the Washington Capitals have lost defenseman Martin Fehervary to injury for the rest of the playoffs.
As mentioned, Fehervary was actually injured last week in a game against the New York Islanders and had to undergo surgery to his right knee.
The 25 year old Fehervary has been a revelation on the Caps' blueline the past few seasons and really broke out this year as the team's most consistent defensive defenseman. The big bodied Slovak put up five goals and 25 points in 81 games with the Capitals this season and formed a formidable pairing with Matt Roy.
The Caps were forced to blend their defensive pairings a bit for Game 1 against the Habs and the unfamiliarity showed a bit. They'll have plenty of time to gel though now with Fehervary officially done until next season.
