The Nashville Predators have sent quite the message to one of their own former first round picks on Saturday.

According to a report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, Predators defenseman Dante Fabbro has been placed on waivers Saturday, he appears to be the only NHL player on waivers today.

Fabbro was selected in the first round (17th overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft and has thus far spent his entire NHL career as a member of the Nashville Predators organization. During that time Fabbro has appeared in 315 regular season games for the Predators, recording 16 goals and 56 assists for a total of 72 points, and an additional 17 playoff games in which he has recorded a single assist.

Fabbro has however appeared in only 6 regular season games for the Predators this season, recording no points, and currently boasts a plus minus rating of -3 on the season.

Fabbro is an interesting player on the waiver wire as he is currently only on a 1 year deal and carries a cap hit of just $2.5 million for the current NHL season. Fabbro is a right shot defenseman as well, which could make him an interesting option for teams around the league desperately looking for help on the right side of their defense. Fabbro signed that 1 year deal just this summer, but it would seem the Predators are prepared to risk losing him on waivers in spite of that.

Fabbro has been on the sidelines for quite some time now with the veteran defenseman not appearing in an NHL game since October 28th when the Predators faced off against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

It will be very interesting to see if there is a team around the league willing to take a gamble on Fabbro, or if the Predators will get the chance to assign him to the American Hockey League should he clear waivers tomorrow.
