Pat Maroon takes on Jack McBain in what could be his final NHL fight.
The Big Rig drops the gloves for what may be his final time in the National Hockey League.
Pat Maroon has had an incredible career in the National Hockey League thanks in large part to his willingness to put his body on the line in defense of his teammates, his brothers, and, despite the fact that he made the shocking announcement that this would be his final season in the NHL, he has no intention of letting that change now.
On Saturday the soon-to-be retired Maroon and his Chicago Blackhawks faced off against the Utah Hockey Club and it would be late in the second period of that game that Maroon would once again showcase why he is so beloved by teammates, both current and former, around the hockey world.
After Utah forward Jack McBain laid a pair of punishing hits on two of his teammates, including Blackhawks rookie Sam Rinzel, Maroon would step in to intervene and send a clear message to McBain that his brand of physical play would not go unpunished while he was on the ice. The Big Rig methodically made his way over to McBain and dropped his gloves in anticipation of what was to come next.
Although both men took a moment to size each other up, and I can hardly blame them for doing so, they would eventually come together and begin throwing heavy blows back and forth. Maroon seemed to generate most of the offense here and before McBain could really get a chance to mount some offense of his own the two men would go crashing to the ice as they both fell off balance.
