Former NHL star defenseman P.K. Subban did not hold back on Friday when sharing his unfiltered thoughts on Thursday night’s game between the New York Rangers and Colorado Avalanche. The NHL-leading Rangers outlasted the Avalanche in a 3-2 win as Artemi Panarin and Vincent Trocheck score shootout goals.
However, Subban claims fans should be careful to bet on the Blue Shirts to win it all this spring since he believes the Avalanche and their star players are better than the Rangers. He compared Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen to New York’s Panarin, Adam Fox and Trochek. He also noted how Colorado’s depth is unmatched and that the only reason why the Rangers won the game is thanks to goalie Igor Shesterkin, who stole the game. He made 38 saves through overtime and two more in the shootout.
Subban does say however that the Rangers could end up with the Presidents’ Trophy, though we all know about the curse linked to it.
If ever the Rangers and Avalanche end up meeting in a seven game series later on this spring, one thing is clear for the former NHL defenseman: it will be quite an entertaining series.
Here is the full analysis he posted on social media, to which many fans strongly reacted:
In the win last night, the Rangers also managed to put an end to MacKinnon’s 19-game point streak, as he went without a point at home for the first time this season. MacKinnon had at least one in the first 35 games, which is second in NHL history to Wayne Gretzky’s 40-game streak in 1988-89.
I feel like once the playoffs are underway, it’s a totally new season and we never know what might happen. However, Subban is right about one thing : if the Rangers face the Avalanche in the Stanley Cup Final, we will get one hell of a show!
