One Hawks player has stepped up in Corey Perry saga!

One chapter is over in the Corey Perry saga in Chicago as his contract was terminated by the Blackhawks after he cleared waivers earlier on Wednesday. The veteran forward’s deal was terminated by the club for “engaging in conduct that is unacceptable and in violation of policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments.”

The Blackhawks, who have struggled with different disturbing scandals over the past decades, want to ensure they have learned from the terrible mistakes in 2010 with Kyle Beach and in 2021 when the Jenner & Block report came out, and probably had no choice in making the call to fire Perry.

Amidst the saga, forward Nick Foligno has stepped up and almost become the team’s captain. Team insider Ben Pope of the Sun Times points out how Foligno “assumed that leadership role almost immediately upon arriving in Chicago this past summer and has become even more influential in it since Perry and Taylor Hall’s departures.”

GM Kyle Davidson himself admitted he sees Foligno as a leader and appears very thankful to have him on his roster, especially during these difficult times.

“I’m not saying anything new when [I] call him the main vocal presence on the team,” Davidson said. “You see it in behind-the-scenes videos. You see it on the ice in practice. He has been absolutely fantastic.”

Foligno was one of Perry’s teammates to speak about the incident on Tuesday night following his Blackhawks’ 4-3 win over the Seattle Kraken.

“It’s a hard day. It doesn’t make it any easier because we care about Corey a ton and we’re gonna wish him well. But the group in here has to galvanize around this and make sure we’re holding ourselves to a high standard, and how serious the Chicago Blackhawks are about that and the culture they want to build here. We’re lucky to be a part of it.”

However, Foligno seems ready to right the ship in Chicago and lead his teammates out of this mess.

“I care a lot about the players I play with and the organization I play for. That’s something I’ve always tried to do, and I’m hoping that has a trickle effect on every guy in here.”

And that’s a good thing because boy do the Blackhawks need a strong voice in their dressing room at this time!
