Olli Maatta gets some stability with a new contract

The veteran defenseman finds a new home.

This just in, veteran defenseman Olli Maatta has signed a three year extension with the Utah Hockey Club worth $3.5 milion per season.

The 30 year old Finn has played just 51 games for his new club after being acquired by the team in a trade with the Detroit Red Wings back in October. He has fit in well though, scoring two goals and 14 goals in Utah this season.

He was coming off a two year deal that paid him $3 million per season and was slated to become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming offseason. His new deal gives him a slight pay raise and the security of a three year deal. He has played for four teams in the past five years, so you can't blame him for putting roots down in Utah at this point in his career.

In total the two time Stanley Cup champion has 42 goals and 191 points in 742 career games split between Utah, Detroit, the Los Angeles Kings, the Chicago Blackhawks and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
