The Edmonton Oilers will soon be adding a young defenseman.

On Saturday afternoon, Oilers employee Bob Stauffer revealed that the Oilers will be signing 20 year old defenseman Marc Lajoie to an amateur tryout offer this weekend.

"Just a small little note here," began Stauffer on Saturday. "Tomorrow the Edmonton Oilers are going to announce that they are going to sign Marc Lajoie from the Edmonton Oil Kings to an amateur tryout."

Lajoie is coming off of a standout season with the Edmonton Oil Kings of the Western Hockey League and it would seem that his performance has landed him on the radar of the Edmonton Oilers. While not many put a great deal of weight into plus minus, Lajoie is coming off a season in which he had a plus minus rating of +3 on a team with a goal differential of -74 which speaks well of his abilities on the blue line.

Lajoie appeared in 68 games for the Oil Kings this season and recorded 26 goals and 32 assists for a total of 58 points over that stretch. He also added a hefty 70 penalty minutes to his season totals, an indication that he isn't afraid of getting physical.

That too shouldn't come as a surprise given Lajoie's natural physical gifts as a 6'6 defenseman that weighs in at just over 220lbs.

Stay tuned for the official announcement from the Oilers tomorrow.
