The Edmonton Oilers have announced that they've signed 21 year old University of Alberta goaltender Tyler Palmer to an amateur contract in order to back up starter Calvin Pickard tonight against the Seattle Kraken.

Stuart Skinner, who was slated to back up Pickard tonight, welcomed the birth of his second son with wife Chloe Skinner earlier today. Congrats to the Skinners!

Palmer, a former 4 year WHL goaltender with the Victoria Royals and the Everett Silvertips has played in 15 games for the Alberta Golden Bears this season, compiling 11 wins and a solid .912 goals against average. He's unlikely to be pressed into action though, unless starter Calvin Pickard has to be removed from the game due to injury.
