Oddsmakers can’t agree on favourite to win the Stanley Cup heading into the postseason

Would you take the risk to bet on one team?

When the season kicked off, the majority of oddsmakers believed the Colorado Avalanche could win it all this spring.
With the trade deadline is behind us, some oddsmakers named the Florida Panthers as the favourite to hoist the Cup later this spring.  The Panthers added on huge pieces ahead of Monday’s deadline in star forward Claude Giroux and defensemen Ben Chiarot and Robert Hagg. They sure look good.

However, BetMGM disagrees and explained how the Avalanche are still in the lead, but also why the Carolina Hurricanes look like the best bet.

“Defense wins championships, and no team is as strong in their end as the Canes. Carolina has arguably the best defensive core in the league and Frederik Andersen has been great in net for them this season.”

BetMGM also put the Toronto Maple Leafs on the list, with some value at +1200, but I don’t think I’d be willing to make that bet. Consistent goaltending remains an issue, one that is too menacing to make a hole in my wallet.

Clearly the fight remains between the Avalanche and the Panthers, who could end up facing one another in the Stanley Cup final. BetMGM puts it like this:

“The Panthers are the one team in the NHL that can go blow for blow with the Avs on offense. They don’t have as many elite scorers, but the Cats hit you with a much deeper roster.”

And so, on which team do you place your bet?
