The NHL has reviewed the play and made the call: Pavel Buchnevich has been suspended two games for headbutting Arizona’s Lawson Crouse in Monday’s 7-4 win over the Coyotes.
The incident took place during the first period, just after a stoppage a play in the Arizona end. Crouse cross-checked Buchnevich twice and the Blues forward responded with the head-butt as the two players were face to face. The Blues' player received a match penalty.
This is the sequence on which Buchnevich received the suspension:
This is probably not the impression Buchnevich is looking to make with his new team. He was acquired from the New York Rangers in July. He scored his first goal with the Blues earlier in the first period on Monday. He also managed to record an assist in his debut with the team against the Colorado Avalanche last week.
Buchnevich tallied 20 goals and 48 points in 54 games with the Rangers last season, while accumulating 42 penalty minutes.
Last season with the Blue Shirts, Buchnevich was suspended one game after he cross-checked Anthony Mantha in the face during a contentious game between his then-Rangers and the Washington Capitals (after the cross-checking on the ice incident by Tom Wilson and the rag-dolling of Artemi Panarin).
