NFL Pro Bowl tight end defends Connor McDavid

One of the NFL's best players is jumping to the Oilers captain's defense.

The Edmonton Oilers find themselves in precarious position, having lost both games of the Stanley Cup Final to the Florida Panthers in Sunrise and putting them into a two games to none hole.

Naturally, there are those who notice that Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have yet to reach the scoresheet with a goal scored; McDavid's only point is an assist on what has coincidently been the only goal through two games for the team via Mattias Ekholm.

But if there are those out there who believe that McDavid is "overrated", one particular star in another League doesn't want to hear it. San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle has come to McDavid's defense, invoking the words that Wayne Gretzky once said of his abilities.

"I'm pretty sure Wayne Gretzky said a couple of years ago that Connor McDavid was better than he ever was or something like that, and I think what Connor McDavid does for the game of hockey, you know, this is fun," Kittle said while making an appearance on 'The Dan Le Batard Show With Stugotz'.

"He (Filip Forsberg) was telling me a couple of years ago, he was like, 'Hey, you've got to come to the game this Tuesday, because we're playing the Oilers and you need to watch Connor McDavid play.' And he's never said that about any other player in the league, like no one else has he ever said that about," Kittle said.

"It's incredible just the different speed he plays at and when you see someone like that handle the puck, the crazy moves that he does, the crazy plays that he does. You can't call him overrated because he shows up all the time," Kittle added.

The Oilers and Panthers will reconvene for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday night, but at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
