New contender enters crazy rumoured trade for Sidney Crosby!
It’s not the Colorado Avalanche! And so this one would be a real blockbuster!
Earlier this month, the Penguins traded forward Lars Eller to the Washington Capitals in return for a third-round pick in 2025 and a fifth-round pick in 2027, with everyone expecting more trades to be coming to Pittsburgh. General manager Kyle Dubas has yet to use the word rebuild though some say that, as soon as he does, captain Sidney Crosby could ask to be moved to a contender.
Just a few months removed from signing a two-year contract extension, Crosby is loyal to his Penguins, however, fans believe he would deserve to be traded to a contender in order to win a fourth championship before retiring.
Insider Kevin Weekes recently pushed things further on NHL Network and named a team that might be a perfect fit for Crosby if, by some miracle, he would want out of Pittsburgh.
And no, it isn’t the Colorado Avalanche. The team has often been linked to Crosby because of close friend Nathan MacKinnon, but Weekes instead believes the Nashville Predators could be the new contenders.
“Why not Sidney Crosby on Broadway?” Weekes said referring to the Predators. “They need a center. They need a left-handed center… To me from a team, and a fit, and a need.”
Nashville made significant additions during the offseason, signing superstars like Steven Stamkos, Brady Skjei, and Jonathan Marchessault. Despite adding those starts to a roster already featuring the likes of Filip Forsberg, Roman Josi, and Juuse Saros, the Predators have been worse than the Penguins with a 6-11-3 record so far this season.
Weekes however believe it is because of their need for a top center down the middle, and Crosby would provide just that.
“If I’m Sidney Crosby,” Weekes added. “Nashville would be right in and amongst the top opportunities… Imagine him on that team with the personnel.”
However, we all know that Crosby is not leaving the Penguins and, could you imagine the asking price for the superstar?! Pittsburgh has no plans on moving on from Crosby and Weekes might have to only dream about this possibility.
